Firefighters climb WCTC training tower to honor 9-11 victims

Three area firefighters climbed WCTC’s five-story training smoke tower Monday to honor 9-11 victims. The men climbed the tower 22 times to equal the World Trade Center’s 110 stories.

Firefighter/paramedic Jonathan Quint (Hartland Fire Department), firefighter/EMT Jacob Bathke (Hartland and town of Waukesha Fire Departments) and firefighter/EMT Dustin Kummer (Hartland Fire Department) started the climb at exactly 9:11 a.m. as Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” played in the background. Quint and Bathke are both graduates of WCTC and Kummer is a graduate of Fox Valley Technical College.

The trio wore their full turnout gear for the climb. The gear adds approximately 60 pounds to each firefighter and includes a coat, pants, boots, hood, helmet, gloves, SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) and a face piece.
