PEWAUKEE, Wis. (Tuesday, July 3, 2018) – Sixteen middle school-aged students will converge on the Waukesha County Technical College campus next week to participate in Nitro-X Summer Camp, which provides students the chance to build, paint, test, drive and race remote-controlled (RC) vehicles.

Each day, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., campers will learn how to operate their vehicles, build their confidence with technical skills, modify and paint the RC vehicles, work in teams to develop life and employability skills, gain exposure to industry by touring local auto dealerships, and get an introduction to career opportunities in automotive and truck maintenance. The weeklong camp culminates in a race day event on Friday, July 13; the public is welcome to attend. Opening ceremonies for race day begin at 1 p.m., with the main event starting at 1:15 p.m., followed by an awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m.

“This is a great opportunity for middle school students who have an interest in the automotive field to learn more about what the industry has to offer,” said Mark Montgomery, associate dean of Automotive, Construction and Apprenticeship programs at WCTC. “Students gain hands-on experience working on the vehicles, get a better idea about automotive careers and meet new friends.”

Tour sponsors for the event include Lexus of Brookfield – Ed Napleton Automotive Group, Griffin Ford Waukesha and JX Truck Center. Campers will be taking field trips to these three businesses during the week to enjoy lunch and learn more about the businesses. Other sponsors include Midwest Composite Technologies and Andrew Chevrolet, while The Foundation of the Wisconsin Automobile & Truck Dealers Association is serving as event partner.
