Collegiate DECA chapter shines at state conference
WCTC’s Collegiate DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter took home two of the highest honors at the 2017 Wisconsin Collegiate DECA state conference held Feb. 23-25 in Delavan. The chapter captured both the DECA Diamond Trophy and the Civic Consciousness Award.
The DECA Diamond Trophy is awarded to the chapter who displayed overall leadership in the four points of the DECA Diamond – career understanding, civic consciousness, social intelligence and leadership development. WCTC took home the Civic Consciousness Award for raising more than $1,600 for the National Kidney Foundation. Both honors acknowledge the dedication and performance of chapter officers and members throughout the year.
In addition to the chapter awards, two WCTC students were entered in the running for the Collegiate DECA Student of the Year Award. Marketing student DeAnn Sader took home first place and accounting student Joe Hagen was a finalist. Sader and Hagen presented their portfolios, resumes and program work accomplishments to a Collegiate DECA alumni panel.
The annual conference brings together Collegiate DECA chapters from across the state and includes a mixture of professional development sessions, business related competitions and an awards celebration. Competitions are held in career fields such as marketing, management, human resources and entrepreneurship. Students compete to advance to the Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) which is held April 19-22 in Anaheim, Calif.
Seventeen students from WCTC attended the conference and all qualified to attend ICDC. A complete listing of competitive event award recipients and national qualifiers is below.
