WCTC students win NARI competition!

IMG953331

First- and second-year Interior Design students along with Interior Design and Architectural Drafting/ Construction Technology (dual degree) students took home top honors in a design competition at the recent NARI Spring Home Improvement Show held at Wisconsin State Fair Park earlier this month.

The students were tasked with creating an attractive, well-designed outdoor living space, which resulted in a playful swing-up bar. The display had an industrial flair and featured a bar that students built in their Construction Technologies class; vertical siding that was cut down, painted and used horizontally to mimic shiplap; the addition of floral elements, a rug and bistro set; and clever swings made of iron, wood and rope. Reclaimed slat walls were built and used to divide the space.

Members of the Milwaukee NARI Foundation and other industry professionals reviewed the displays, shared their insight and selected WCTC’s design as the winner. Other teams that competed in the contest were from MIAD, Milwaukee Area Technical College and Mount Mary University. This marks the fourth time WCTC has won this competition in the last 10 years!
