WCTC to host “Byte of IT” event to inspire women to pursue information technology careers

PEWAUKEE, Wis. (Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017) – Waukesha County Technical College will host an information technology (IT) event for women titled, “Byte of IT” from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the college’s Pewaukee campus, 800 Main St. The event will feature discussion and hands-on activites facilitated by women. Attendees will get an inside look at careers in IT, such as: Web and Software Developer, Network Specialist and Computer Support Specialist.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor Women’s Bureau, only 26 percent of individuals employed in computer and mathematical occupations are women. The average salary for a Web and Software Developer graduate of WCTC is $47,680.

The event, intended for high-schoolers and those looking to re-career, is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending should register at www.wctc.edu/bit-event.
