WCTC to host two-day Foxconn product showcase

Taiwan-based contract manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group will showcase their product line at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) this Monday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3  p.m. at the Richard T. Anderson Education Center (RTA) 800 Main Street, Pewaukee.

Foxconn will create 13,000 new jobs and invest $10 billion in Wisconsin. After considering locations in several states, the company chose Wisconsin in part because of the state’s ability to develop skilled workers through the Wisconsin Technical College System and other educational institutions.

“It’s fitting that Waukesha County Technical College will host Foxconn’s product showcase, as we along with our sister technical colleges are preparing students for the high-tech jobs the company will provide here in southeastern Wisconsin,” said WCTC President Kaylen Betzig. “Last month, WCTC was proud to host President Donald Trump and Gov. Scott Walker for a workforce roundtable discussion. During their visit to the college, the presidential delegation met with Foxconn representatives to discuss the potential move to the state."

The company specializes in design, manufacturing and assembly of global computer and high-tech consumer electronics products. They are best known for making iPhones and other Apple devices but other customers include Sony Corp., Dell Inc. and BlackBerry Ltd.

This will be the first liquid crystal display (LCD) facility of any kind in North America and will manufacture LCD screens that will be used in everything from self-driving cars to aircraft systems and in the fields of education, entertainment, healthcare, safety and surveillance.

“We are thrilled to build a state-of-the-art display fabrication plant in America’s heartland, which will be the first of a series of facilities we are building in several U.S. states as part of a robust 8K+5G ecosystem in the United States,” said Foxconn founder and CEO Terry Gou.

The campus will employ thousands of engineers and skilled workers. The average wage will be $53,875 per year plus benefits.

"This is an exciting time for WCTC and our educational partner institutions and we look forward to working with Foxconn to provide the training and workers they need to thrive here in Wisconsin,” said Betzig.

This event is free and open to the public.
